Hello everyone! I want to personally thank you for coming across my poetry blog. Whether you’re a first timer or a recurring subscriber, welcome to my world of thoughts!

I’m Joshua Rials, Originally from Chicago but raised in Minneapolis, MN. One of my passions includes cooking, as I have been experienced with the art of cooking since I was 7 years old. Once I have gotten older, my cooking skills have helped me develop a keen sense of creativity, that propelled me to start showcasing it in writing and design.

The term General-J defines my entire life as being a leader, taking action of life’s obstacles, having the courage to overcome, and being an abundant force in various scenarios.

I have been introduced to poetry in the 3rd grade, as one of my poems that I’ve written was considered the best in the entire class. That has sparked me into writing more, and learning about different types of poetry that has suited me the best.

After a long break from writing,  I wanted to expand my skills towards writing as a whole. That’s when I did research on different online writing classes and came upon this online resource called First Writer. It has given me the tools to becoming a better writer, and has provided me the knowledge necessary to start my own blog. That has motivated me to start writing poetry again in 2015 that consists of my experiences and everyday thoughts converted into themes, such as Love, Intimacy, Pain, Motivation, and Struggle. Those five themes have helped me grow into who I am today, and it identifies my strengths when it comes to writing.

During the time I’ve also attended Concordia University, studying Business Management and Graphic Design. One of my life goals is to have my own published poetry book, that will be beneficial to thousands or even millions of people worldwide.

I did not have the greatest childhood. From being homeless at 7 and 8 years old, missing my 4th 5th and 6th grade year, witnessing people that have thrown their entire life away to drugs and alcohol, it has given me a keen sense of hopelessness and depression.

That sense has followed me throughout my teenage years, battling myself constantly trying to keep myself from doing things I will later regret. That’s where me writing poetry comes into play, to give me a chance to vent out all the memories in which whoever reads may be going through the same thing.

I want to be their support system when it’s all said and done, and I feel that creating General-J Writings will do just that.

The reason why I chose to start General-J Writings, is to have an opportunity to bring my passion in writing to life, allowing my work to spread to others who may be in the same situations while continuing to develop my skills and concepts, all while connecting with others that share the same passion as myself. I look forward to providing you with my written thoughts and emotions! If you ever need a hand or have questions, feel free to message me I will be more than happy to help you out.

Peace & Positivity,
